US Food & Drug Administration, Modified Risk Tobacco Product Applications Draft Guidance

Key Points:

  • The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a number of nicotine products their first-ever risk modification order in 2019.
  • The products are required to show the following in order to be accepted:

    • Significantly reduce damage and the risk of disease associated with tobacco use for individual tobacco users.
    • Benefit the health of the population as a whole, taking into account both users and nonusers of tobacco products.
  • Since 2019, it has given a number of nicotine sachets and electronic devices modified risk status.
  • It is possible to promote and brand these goods as being less dangerous than cigarettes.
