700,000 smokers have quit thanks to vaping in France.

European Journal of Public Health

G Quatremère et al., ‘Use and perceptions of electronic cigarette by the adult population in France in 2017’, European Journal of Public Health, 2019, Volume 29, Issue Supplement 4.

Key Points:

  • The study analysed data from more than 25,000 respondents to Santé Publique France’s Health Barometer in 2017.
  • Key findings:
    • An estimated 700,000 successful ex-smokers in France believe that vaping helped them to quit.
    • Less than 1% of vapers were never-smokers, showing that non-smokers do not take up vaping.
    • Half of France’s vapers have given up smoking entirely, showing that smokers are using vapes as a replacement for tobacco.
